Abstract

Although cleaner fish are essential to the health of reef fish communities (Limbaugh 1961), the nature of cleaner-client relationships have proven to be quite complex (Cote 2000, Vaughn et al. 2016). In reef fish communities, cleaner species are classified into two categories: dedicated (recently suggested to replace the term obligate) and facultative (Vaughn et al. 2016). Dedicated cleaners acquire most of their food from cleaning client fishes, while facultative cleaners usually do not depend on cleaning for food. This article is protected by copyright.
