Abstract

The effect of a dedicated daily contact cleaner on patient comfort and contact lens cleanliness was evaluated in a 3-month, investigator-masked, controlled study. Seventy-six patients at two sites were randomly assigned the use of a regimen containing a daily cleaner (OPTI-FREE Daily Cleaner with OPTI-FREE Solution) or a regimen containing a multipurpose solution (ReNu). Results showed that patients who used the daily cleaner regimen reported greater visual clarity, end-of-day comfort, and overall lens-wearing comfort than patients who used the multipurpose solution regimen (<p 0.05). Lenses cleaned with the daily cleaner had lower levels of protein deposits as measured by high-performance liquid chromatography (<p 0.05) and had fewer microscopic deposits (<p 0.05). These data indicate that the use of a dedicated daily cleaner can provide patients with more comfortable, cleaner lenses.
