Abstract

Herein, SiO2-TiO2 composite (STC) photocatalysts were prepared through placing SiO2 microspheres in TiOSO4 solution and calcining at high temperature. Using STC (containing only 5.09 wt% TiO2), the degradation rate to MO with a concentration of 10 ppm was 100% at 50 min of UV illumination. The cost of the photocatalyst and the cleanliness of the preparation process were ensured due to the use of TiOSO4 as the titanium source and the water as the solvent. Therefore, not only the photocatalytic effect and application performance of TiO2 were improved, but realized the cleanliness of the preparation process and reduced the cost.
