Abstract

The world's economy and society are embarking on one of the most challenging and important transformations in the history of humankind. The need to reduce carbon emissions and transition to cleaner energy sources is existential, and as such we as a society are facing both temporal deadlines and massive upheaval in human behaviors. If we are to be successful in preventing significant and irreversible damage, we will have to change the way we work, live, and play. The introduction of clean energy is a major component of society's response, requiring multi‐tiered levels of change, with coordination across governments at local, national, and global levels driving action across energy producers and consumers.
