Abstract

MOST of the glacial sediments exposed within the cliff sections around Cromer Coast are chiefly the product of the Lowestoft stage1 of the Pleistocene period. They are principally composed of boulder clays interbedded with patches of fiuviatile sediments. Detailed geological descriptions of the cliff sections are reported elsewhere2. The North Sea Drift as defined here consists of the following sequence: Contorted Drift; Sands; Upper Cromer Till; Laminated Beds; Lower Cromer Till. This succession is not developed throughout the length of the coast section, but the sequence at any point on the coast is consistent with the complete succession. A typical geological profile of the area is given in Fig. 1.
