Abstract

Following her appointment as Heritage Minister, Sheila Copps outlined for a Globe and Mail reporter the challenges facing Canadian cultural institutions in the aftermath of the Quebec referendum. The task for the country as a whole, Copps stated, is to find the means “to better define itself”, as a nation and a society. And she was clear on the role culture, and the arts more specifically, must play in that process.
