Abstract

This aim of this German-language book (which translates to English as Claude E. Shannon, Toys, Life and the Secret History of His Theory of Information) is to explore the personality of Claude Shannon, to describe his fantastic and amusing gadgets and toys, and to cast new light on certain periods in Shannon's life, especially when he was creating his theory of information. The book contains many new facets and aspects of Shannon as a person. Even those who knew Shannon scientifically will find many things of interest. But the author has not included a short description of Shannon's scientific achievements and their importance for today to supplement his treatment of Shannon as a person.
