Abstract

Abstract Gurminder Kaur Bhogal’s chapter is an exploration of the influence and direct use of Claude Debussy’s piano music: for instance, how his ethereal “floating sounds” as found in works such as “Clair de Lune” have directed game designers’ attentions toward the creation of various atmospheres and moods in video games, as well as the possibilities that these afford the player. For Bhogal, Debussy’s music and video game compositions that draw from it are effective in creating the virtual spaces players are invited to inhabit, where atmospheres and moods fashioned by the music can touch the player and make them feel.
