Abstract

This paper proposes a classification of three-phase synchronous alternators associated with a diode rectifier and a constant-voltage load. This system is, for example, used in vehicle electric power generation, or in aerogeneration systems. An equivalent circuit model that neglects the different losses and the magnetic saturation is used. The classification is based on the effect of d q inductances, the maximum excitation flux, and the rated current level, on the maximum power limits. A specific normalisation system is used to reduce the number of influent parameters. The classification is done using steady-state equations and confirmed by dynamic simulations and experimental results.
