Abstract
It is proposed that all structural solutions of seal couplings employed in modern practice for the shafts of rotary machines be divided into the following four groups: contact, contact-grooved, non-contact-grooved, and plate. Applicability parameters of all couplings designed for shaft seals are described. Their advantages and disadvantages are noted.
