Abstract

Unstable equilibrium configurations of two-electron atoms discovered by Klar in classical mechanics are related with the Rydberg series of broad resonance states located on the Wannier ridge. The width of these states evaluated from the classical Lyapunov exponent relates to the transitions from the broad ridge states to the whole quasicontinuum of doubly excited states.
