Abstract

The comparison of the occupational, educa? tional, material and other mobility aspirations of Mexican Americans with those of the larger society reveals the group is not the exception to the ethnic pattern in the United States that it was considered to be until now. The pre? vious misperception of Mexican Americans stemmed from the inadequacy of previous re? search techniques?namely their reliance on controlling statistically the class factor. The research reported here challenges this tech? nique in its approach and findings.
