Abstract

Chamaeleo tenuis from the Uzungwe Mountains has erroneously been recorded as host of two new species of Plasmodium, viz. P. michikoa and P. gologoloense. C. tenuis (currently Bradypodion tenue) is restricted to the Usambara Mountains, Tanzania and the Shimba Hills, Kenya. A similar-looking chameleon, that was confounded for almost 90 years with B. tenue, occurs in the Uzungwe Mountains and the Uluguru Mountains, Tanzania and was recently described as Bradypodion oxyrhinum. B. oxyrhinum is the true host of P. michikoa and P. gologoloense.
