Memorializes Claire B. Kopp (1931-2019). Between 1970 and 2000, she was a lecturer in psychology, assistant research psychologist, and clinical professor in the Departments of Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and Education and then adjunct professor in psychology at UCLA. At Claremont McKenna College, she was an adjunct professor in psychology from 1995 to 2001 and a research fellow from 2003 to 2004. Claire retained a deep and abiding interest in developmental disabilities throughout her career. She believed that the study of abnormal development was deeply informed by an understanding of typical growth and change. She is probably best known, however, for her research and theory on the early emergence of children's self-control or regulation; her work was pioneering and helped to stimulate the large body of work on self-regulation that followed.
