Abstract

Powerful businesses are interpreted as protagonists of a universal political system that is intended to be homogenous and minimalist, as a sort of global invisible hand. In the political and economic context of globalization, cosmopolitanism offers a reformist project based on social-democratic and liberal values, which aims to democratize the system of globalization without altering its fundamentals. According to the model of cosmopolitanism, politics concentrates on a macro-level, because it aims to correct the present-day system of international exclusion through a significant institutional reform. Consequently, the political protests against most institutions must be carried out with the aim of rebuilding their internal structure and the opening of new channels of representation. Inside the political and economic context of globalization, characterized by a high level of political and economic marginalization, localism offers the clearest radical alternative to the current global transformations.
