India and Syria have traditionally maintained cordial relations, shaped throughout India’s post-independence reach to the Arab world and on the far side as a part of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) that then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru championed in conjunction with the Egyptian leader Gamal Abdel Nasser.
