Abstract
Dysprosium oxide-europium oxide (Dy2O3/Eu2O3) nanocomposite and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) were synthesized via green methods using Citrus limetta essential oil which acts as a reducing and stabilizing agent. Dy2O3/Eu2O3 nanocomposite was further anchored on rGO by green deposition method to get Dy2O3/Eu2O3/rGO nanocomposite. The bandgap energy of Dy2O3/Eu2O3/rGO was shifted from 5.10 eV to 3.66 eV due to the deposition of Dy2O3/Eu2O3 on rGO as compared to undoped Dy2O3/Eu2O3. The average crystallite size of Dy2O3/Eu2O3/rGO nanocomposite was found 27.6 nm as calculated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD). Moreover, incorporation of Dy2O3/Eu2O3 nanoparticles on rGO surface has significantly enhanced the photocatalytic degradation of ciprofloxacin antibiotic under the irradiation of visible and UV lights, which is 87 % and 91 % respectively. Hence the prepared nanocomposite Dy2O3/Eu2O3/rGO has shown promising photocatalytic efficiency to remove antibiotics from pharmaceutical industrial wastes.
