Abstract

Tourism becomes a global industry that can be transformed into a governance and management environment with the aim of the development of people sustainably. The inclusion of citizenship education concept in the context of community development aims to provide a position of the nature of citizenship education that Indonesia must enter in the practice of community development. This article is a case study of batik craftsmen in Kalitengah village of Cirebon Regency of West Java, Indonesia. This study shows, one alternative is rural development in suburban areas. Indirectly, the tourism that opened in this area “batik Tourism Village” will help the economic level of batik maker that has been channeling the results of batik to places of sale in the city with the income that is very far from the results obtained by the batik sellers in the shops located in the city.
