Abstract
The present study reports the case of a surgically treated lateral dermoid cyst, affecting the left submandibular space of a nine-year-old child, with a history of evolution of slow growth during approximately 1 year. The patient was admitted in the oral and maxillofacial surgery service of the Hospital Geral de Bonsucesso, complaining of esthetics in the absence of pain. The histopathologic exam revealed a cavity covered by orthokeratinized stratified epithelium, with abundant keratin in the cystic lumen and adnexal sebaceous glands and hair follicles in the capsule. Such characteristics were consistent with the diagnosis of dermoid cyst.
