Cisternal irrigation therapy with urokinase and ascorbic acid for prevention of vasospasm after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage: Outcome in 217 patients. Surg Neurol 2000; 53:110–8. The authors performed cisternal irrigation using urokinase and ascorbic acid in 217 patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. Patients were in Fisher group 3 and had Hounsfield numbers greater than 60; all underwent surgery within 72 h of onset. Irrigation was continued for approximately 10 days postoperatively. Symptomatic vasospasm was seen in six patients; complications occurred in eight during irrigation therapy.
