Abstract

IntroductionIn recent years, esthetics has become paramount in dental treatments, raising high expectations in patients. Esthetic harmony is determined by the smile, which in turn is influenced by the position and dimension of teeth, gums and lips. Conditions affecting dental clinical crowns require intervention of several dental disciplines to restore function and esthetics. Lengthening of the surgical crown allows for the increase of supra-crest crown length as well as the re-establishment of biological thickness to balance restorative esthetic requirements with periodontal health. Case presentationA female patient afflicted with delayed passive eruption was referred from the Prosthetics Department to undergo lengthening of crown to achieve prosthetic rehabilitation. ConclusionsCrown lengthening allows tissue preparation and achieves esthetic and physiological stability, achieving access to prosthetic margins preserving thus suitable prosthetic-periodontal unity.
