Abstract

Chronic ankle instability is a complex entity that has been shown as a predisposing factor to the development of ankle osteoarthritis, due to severe anatomic alterations, whose management is controversial nowadays. Although several techniques have been proposed, currently there is special interest in the anatomical reconstruction of the lateral ankle complex with diferent tendon augmentation. The anathomic reconstruction of the lateral ligament complex by tendon autograft is an effective technique which generally gives good results in terms of restoring ankle stability medium to long term. We recommend its use in cases of severe instabilities, failure of previous surgeries and patients with hypermobility and poor quality of soft tissues.
