Abstract

SH wave has high application values because of its special propagating characteristics. Based on linear three-dimensional elasticity, circumferential wave governing equations of orthotropic graded hollow cylinder expressed in the displacement components are obtained. The axial displacement is independent of the other two directions. The waves can be decomposed of SH wave and Lamb-like wave. An orthogonal polynomials method is used to characterize the independent SH wave. The dispersion curves for graded pipes with different gradient fields are calculated to illustrate the influence of the gradient variety of the material on the SH wave. The dispersion curves and displacement distributions for graded and homogeneous pipes at different ratios of radius to thickness are calculated. The effect of the ratio and the differences between the graded and homogeneous pipes are analyzed.
