Abstract

IntroductionmiR-126 is an important non coding RNA which has a role in development of pre diabetes and diabetes mellitus. Material and methodsA systematic review and meta-analysis of expression of circulatory miR-126 in diabetes mellitus was conducted using the studies selected from search engines; Advanced PubMed, Scopus and Google Scholar and 5 articles were included in the final meta-analysis. The Newcastle-Ottawa quality assessment scale was used to assess the quality of included studies which showed that all of them were good and fair with a mean score of 7. ResultsMixed effect model was fitted to adjust the heterogeneity due to the moderating variables. After adjusting the moderator effect, the heterogeneity between the studies was observed to be 45.43%. The predicted standardized mean difference for the average of male-female ratio, BMI and age was estimated to be −1.40. Publication bias in the studies which indicated the absence of significant publication bias (Kendall's tau = −0.20, p = 0.817). Discussion and conclusionWe concluded that the under expression of miR-126 was observed which indicates the role of miR-126 in diabetes mellitus.
