Abstract

Summary: A description is given of measurements of the spectral quality of ultraviolet solar radiation, of wave lengths shorter than about 3300Å, made with a Ti-photoelectric cell and filter radiometer. A close parallelism is noted in the variation in filter transmission with variation in barometric pressure, in agreement with the well-known variation in the amount of atmospheric ozone that accompanies changes in air pressure. A notable example is described where the wave of low barometric pressure preceded, by 5 to 6 hours, an appreciable increase in atmospheric ozone, apparently indicating which was cause and which was effect and suggesting a method of studying air circulation in the stratosphere.
