Abstract

The paper introduces the general situation of the world's first five-terminal modular multilevel converter direct current transmission project- Zhoushan modular multilevel converter multi-terminal direct current (MMC-MTDC) transmission project. The overall structure and major function of its control system are analyzed and summarized. Based on the research of circulating current suppressing control strategy and AC fault ride-through strategy of MMC-MTDC control system, several experiments were performed to analyze the circulating current suppressing effect of MMC-MTDC system and the fault ride-through capability of MMC-MTDC system under four kinds of faults, including AC single phase grounding, AC two-phase grounding, AC two-phase short-circuit and AC three-phase short-circuit. The research result provides technical support and theoretical guarantee for operation security of Zhoushan MMC-MTDC system.
