Abstract

We present here a circularly polarized (CP) single-layer metal-only reflectarray unit-cell (UC) operating in X-band with wide bandwidth. The unit-cell consists of a circular slot, two interleaved C-shaped stubs and C-shaped slots in a hexagonal lattice with periodicity of $0.38\times \lambda_{0}$ at center frequency of 11.5 GHz. The reflection phase variation in circular polarization is achieved by rotation technique. The 360° phase shift is recorded with low reflection loss (below 1-dB) over the desired bandwidth (10.6 GHz - 12.6 GHz). To validate the concept, a $8\times \lambda_{0}$-diameter reflectarray antenna is designed for 341 unit-cells to obtain beam at boresight. The feeding circular horn antenna is tilted 15° from the center to avoid the feeding blockage phenomenon. The simulated gain of reflectarray antenna reaches 23.9 dBi at 12.3 GHz with a 1-dB and 3-dB gain-bandwidth of 7.4% and 17.4% at center frequency. The 3-dB axial ratio (AR) spans from 10.6 GHz to 12.6 GHz.
