Abstract
A novel circularly polarized (CP) RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tag antenna is proposed. The structure of this tag antenna is an eccentric circular slot patch type with two open slits. The planar size of this proposed UHF (ultrahigh frequency) RFID tag antenna is 100 × 100 × 1.6 mm3. To achieve good impedance matching and conjugate matching, the feeding strip with the tag chip loaded in between is designed as a T-shaped type with one end shorted to the ground, while the other end is used to provide capacitive coupling to the patch. The 10-dB return loss of the proposed tag antenna is 1.8% (911–928 MHz), and its corresponding 3-dB axial ratio (AR) band is 0.8% (921–929 MHz), which is enough to cover the 900 MHz UHF RFID applications.
