Abstract

Circular polarized (CP) millimeter wave antenna array is a demanded technique for 60 GHz antennas in package applications. High gain and wide axial ratio (AR) bandwidth are important properties for 60 GHz CP antenna arrays. In this chapter, we systematically summarize the design of wideband CP antenna array from the element selection and array configuration. Various AR bandwidth enhancement methods are discussed and explained. As an example, a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW)‐fed CP antenna array with wide AR bandwidth is presented for 60 GHz applications. A slot‐coupled rotated strip with wideband AR performance is used as the element to construct a 4 × 4 antenna array. The antenna array is fabricated using low‐temperature co‐fired ceramic (LTCC) process. The measured results show that the AR bandwidth is more than 7 GHz with a boresight gain greater than 12.5 dBic.
