Abstract

A composite right/left-handed (CRLH) waveguide slot array antenna with circular polarization (CP) is studied in this paper. The CP antenna consists of two symmetric CRLH waveguides placing side-by-side with ± 45° rotated series slots array cut symmetrically on the two upper broadwalls, respectively. The two waveguides are excited with equal magnitude and 90° phase difference. Both left-handed CP (LHCP) and right-handed CP (RHCP) can be realized flexibly by setting the phase difference to be - 90° and 90°, respectively. This antenna has the capability of continuous beam scanning from backfire to endfire including the broadside while keeping the axial ratio below 3 dB within the main beam direction. Its CP performance together with high radiation efficiency is demonstrated by the simulation results.
