Abstract

ABSTRACT A novel method has been developed for fabricating cholesteric liquid crystal polymer composite containing a luminescent europium complex. It involves creating porous cholesteric polymer networks, introducing the europium complex into the pores and encapsulating it through the UV-induced polymerisation of a nematic diacrylate. The resulting composite exhibits bright red luminescence upon excitation by UV light which is strongly circularly polarised. Such materials have potential applications in display technologies, counterfeit protection and other fields.
