Abstract

This study aimed to identify the interfaces between Industry 4.0 technologies and circular supply chains in foodtechs, through key stakeholders in the sector. The research was conducted in eight Brazilian foodtech, using interviews and content analysis. Fiveteen circular supply chain practices were identified in the surveyed foodtechs, along with the enumeration of three different Industry 4.0 technologies already implemented in the foodtechs and the verification of adherence to stakeholder theory issues. The results indicate that Industry 4.0 technologies generate efficiency in foodtech circular supply chains, although they are still in their early stages. Stakeholder engagement optimizes foodtech circular supply chains in the Brazilian context. Resource circularity creates value for foodtechs when supported by Industry 4.0 technologies and stakeholder engagement is crucial for resource circularity. Practical contributions of this study include the finding that stakeholder engagement in circular practices is possible, both in the supply chain and within organizations. The study also highlights the need for support from the public sector, including regulatory issues and tax exemptions for investment in new Industry 4.0 technologies.
