Abstract

We unveil a highly efficient circular polarizer based on twisted double Td − WTe2 thin film in the transmissive and reflective modes. This polarizer can transform a linearly polarized incident wave into a circularly polarized one with extremely high extinction ratios by simply adjusting the orientation of the incident polarization plane. The proposed structure provides switching between the right-handed and left-handed circular polarizations (RCP and LCP) in the output wave by tuning the frequency and, in particular, the polarization direction of the incident wave. Furthermore, the twist angle of the thin films can control the handedness of the converted wave to be either LCP or RCP. Owing to the high efficiency of the polarization conversion and accessibility of the realization of the proposed structure, it may have potential applications as a polarization manipulator in the optical sensing, communication, and defense industry.
