Abstract
Bovine plasma amine oxidase enzyme is a copper amine oxidase which has a molecular weight of about 170,000 (1) and contains 2 gm atoms of copper per mole of protein (2). It is an unusual copper protein since it is pink in color and the apoenzyme is also colored (3). The latter observation has suggested that there is another prosthetic group in the enzyme although the chemical identity of the group has not been established (4). The enzyme catalyzes the general reaction shown in equation 1.
