Abstract

Compounds of the general type cis-bis(halogenoacetato)bis(ethylenediamine)cobalt(III) are discussed for the cases where the halogenoacetate ion is monochloroacetate, dichloroacetate, trichloroacetate, or dibromoacetate. For the first time these complexes have been resolved into their optical isomers and a study has been made of the circular dichroism data obtained.The positions of circular dichroism and absorption bands have been interpreted by calculating relative values of the σ and π interactions for the halogenoacetate ligands.
