Abstract
A simple algebraic rule can often be used as an alternative to the application of differential calculus when seeking or demonstrating the occurrence of maximum or minimum conditions in a circuit or system (e.g. the conditions for maximum power transfer). Teaching experience has proved the rule to be especially effective and convenient when teaching introductory electronics courses to technician students.
