Abstract

Abstract Cyanobacteria express circadian (daily) rhythms, even when growing with doubling times that are as fast as once every 8 hours. The fitness of cyanobacteria is improved when the circadian period is similar to the period of the environmental cycle. Three novel clock genes have been identified in the cyanobacterial genome.
