Abstract

Gender dysphoria is defined as a condition of discomfort and dissatisfaction arising from the inconsistency between a person’s gender identity and the sex assigned at birth. With the definition of gender dysphoria in the DSM-5, this condition has been redefined as gender diversity, moving away from terms like illness or disorder. In recent years, the increase in societal recognition and acceptance of transgender individuals has led to many requests for gender-affirming surgeries. Despite advances in vaginoplasty and phalloplasty surgical techniques over the past century, gender-affirming surgeries remain challenging and require a multidisciplinary approach. Given the intricate nature of these procedures, a thorough understanding of the anatomy, which has been established for proper comprehension and management of complications, is essential. These surgeries performed on the genital region fall within the field of urology anatomically and functionally. Keywords: gender dysphoria, sex reassignment surgery, urological approach
