Abstract

The paper analyzes the relationship between Danilo Kiš's novels 'Garden, Ashes', and 'Hourglass' and poetics of the French new novel (Alain Robbe-Grillet, Michel Butor, Robert Pinget, Nathalie Sarraute) in the context which examines the influence that film had on the prose of the twentieth century. We are able to follow the Flaubertian thread through labyrinths of the historical avant-garde to be wrapped up with Danilo Kiš and Nouveau roman. As a result, it can be seen how film provoked modifications of narrative techniques at the dawn of postmodernism.
