Abstract

This article intends to relate the concept of Social Representations, taken in several different aspects, to cinema studies, pointing some relevant elements to analyze it. This work has as aim to present briefly the thoughts of Durkheim about the genesis of the term representation and relate it to some contributions offered by Serge Moscovici and Denise Jodelet, both important names for the social psychology. Taking philosophy as matter, we try to introduce Michel Foucault’s reflexions on the crisis of representation, connecting them to the ideas of Gilbert Durand and the symbolic imagination, besides the conception of mimesis as presented by Paul Ricouer.
