Abstract

In this paper, for the purpose of examining validity of applying the sky luminance distribution of the CIE standard general sky to the sky radiance distribution in order to calculate vertical irradiance values accurately and integrating 15 sky types of CIE standard general sky into fewer sky types, we calculated and compared the vertical irradiance values, using a) the CIE standard general sky applied to the sky radiance distribution, b) the measured sky radiance distribution, c) the uniform sky. The results show that, considering that the RMSE and relative error of the vertical irradiance values were rather small, the CIE standard general sky can be applied to the sky radiance distribution in order to calculate vertical irradiance values accurately, and its 15 sky types can be integrated into 5 sky types.
