Abstract

Based on 1976 national survey data it was found that frequency of church attendance is positively related to disapproval of legalized abortion for members of fundamentalist churches. However, unlike previously reported studies, no relationship exists between church attendance and attitudes toward abortion for members of liberal churches. The reason proposed for the difference lies in the different orientations and concerns that have historically characterized fundamentalist and liberal churches.
