Abstract

[Editor's note: The chronology was compiled by reviewing articles from over 8o publications, including the major US, European, Israeli and Arab Englishlanguage press. These articles are contained in Mideast Press Report, a weekly clipping service of Claremont Research and Publications in New York. Given the scope of the coverage, only the most important details could be included. Where possible, the original language and words of the various news reports were retained. Where different estimates of casualties were given, both are reported. The section on Military Action covers daily military activities of all parties. The Casualties section focuses on the impact of military activity, including casualty figures, destruction of buildings and economic infrastructure, relief efforts, maintenance or deprivation of basic public services and utilities, and conditions of Lebanese and Palestinian refugees. Political Responses covers the major international and bilateral diplomatic actions, negotiations, protests and demonstrations, and statements by political leaders. The following is the third part of the chronology. Part one appeared in the Journal no. 44/45 (Summer/Fall I982), and covered June 3 to August 23, I982; part two covered August 23 through December 3 1, I982 and appeared in the Journal no. 46 (Winter I983).]
