Abstract

Rationale: Home parenteral nutrition (HPN) is a life-saving therapy in chronic intestinal failure (CIF) but can negatively impact patients’ quality of life (QoL)1. The prevalence of chronic sleep disturbance (CSD) in the UK population is growing2. CSD may also be prevalent amongst HPN patients but this has not been formally assessed. Attention to sleep hygiene is an effective and cheap tool to treat CSD3. We sought to document the prevalence of CSD amongst HPN patients and describe patient-reported and clinical factors associated with poor sleep that may inform the development of a dedicated HPN sleep hygiene tool.
