Abstract

Chronic right ventricular volume overload can occur in various types of atrial septal defects with or without mitral valve disease, anomalous pulmonary venous drainage, isolated pulmonary regurgitation, or isolated tricuspid regurgitation. Electrocardiogram is useful in differential diagnosis of various types of atrial septal defects. It also helps in suspecting concomitant mitral valve disease or increase in pulmonary vascular resistance. Electrocardiogram also gives a clue in suspecting other causes of chronic right ventricular volume overload. Summary and MCQs at the end of the chapter help in quick revision and self-assessment.
