Abstract
The literature on deafness was reviewed extensively for the year 1957. Only a third of the articles appear in this review. We were unable to include some very fine articles because of limitations on space. The subject matter for the material submitted was arranged as follows: Otosclerosis, Meniere's Disease, Reconstructive Ear Surgery, Noise Deafness, The Ear in Head Trauma, Toxic Labyrinthitis, Deafness in Children, Tinnitus, Presbycusis, Sudden Deafness, Intracranial Tumors, Miscellaneous Papers on Deafness, Vertigo, Vestibular Tests, Anatomy of the Ear, Cochlear Physiology, and Physiology of the Vestibule. I am indebted to the following for abstracting literature from their native language: Michel Portmann—French, Enrico Bozzi—Italian, Emery Pick—German, and Jerzy Szpunar—Polish and Russian. Otosclerosis Otosclerosis may be associated with fibrous or bony changes in the niche of the oval window.
