Abstract
We have studied the effect of chronic lithium administration on haloperidol-induced dopaminergic supersensitivity in rat brain. Lithium had no effect on haloperidol-induced increases in apomorphine inhibition of dopamine synthesis in the striatum and mesolimbic regions. Similarly, lithium was without effect on haloperidol-induced increases in density of [ 3H]spiperone binding sites in the striatum. These results indicate that lithium has no effect on haloperidol-induced supersensitivity of presynaptic dopamine receptors in the striatum and mesolimbic regions and on postsynaptic dopamine receptors in the striatum.
