Summary

Introduction

The global burden of kidney diseases is rising, and several causes first begin early in childhood [1]. The number of deaths attributable to chronic kidney disease (CKD) has almost doubled globally in the past 20 years. CKD is among the top 20 causes of death worldwide [2]. Little is known about the epidemiological features of CKD in the younger population [3]. CKD is defined as evidence for bilateral kidney damage for more than 3 months, which can be structural or functional, with or without a decrease in glomerular filtration rate [4]. The presence of CKD at any stage is a strong predictor for deterioration of renal function later in lifetime [5]
