Abstract

A new measure, the Chronic Illness-related Shame Scale (CISS), was developed CISS was revealed to be robust instrument in samples of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and cancer patients CISS and self-judgement mediate the relationship between IBD symptomatology and depressed mood This model presented an excellent adjustment and explained 55% of depressed mood's variance Results suggest that treatment programmes for IBD should include compassionate-based interventions.
