The concurrent malaria in case 2 precipitated severe hemolytic crises with hemoglobinuria erroneously diagnosed blackwater fever. This feature makes such cases of particular interest to civilian physicians as well as to medical officers of the armed forces, because of the prevalence of malaria among troops now engaged in Pacific warfare.CLINICAL DESCRIPTIONForty-eight cases have been reported1since the clinical entity was first described by Marchiafava and Nazarii in 1911.
